SANDAG Bayshore Bikeway Update

Please be advised that construction on Segments 4B and 5 of the Bayshore Bikeway will begin on Monday, March 13. This segment spans from Vesta Street to Marina Way and West 32nd Street in National City; work will begin on the north end of the project and will continue southward over the next six months. Refer to the project map for more details on the project location (Vesta Street to National City Marina).

Starting next week, trees on the east shoulder of Harbor Drive between Vesta Street and the bridge over Paleta Creek will be removed to make room for the bike path to be constructed in the area. This work will be performed in the roadside shoulder and access to adjacent properties will be maintained during construction. Workers will take all reasonable steps to minimize impacts to the neighboring community and will ensure access is maintained for people riding bikes, walking, and driving in the area. As the project wraps up later this summer, trees will be replanted in the project area to enhance the bikeway.

The Bayshore Bikeway is a priority project in the San Diego Regional Bike Plan Early Action Program, which will create an interconnected network of bikeways throughout the region. Approximately 15 miles of the planned 24-mile loop around the San Diego Bay have been built to date. Construction of the current 2.25-mile segment is anticipated to be completed in summer 2017.
