150 Kids Saddle Up For Safety at San Diego’s Largest Bike Rodeo

SATURDAY: 150 Kids Saddle Up For Safety at San Diego’s Largest Bike Rodeo Bike Coalition brings two-wheeled carnival to school parking lot WHAT: More than 150 elementary school students and their families are ready to master the bicycle skills needed to go from pedaling novice to cycling extraordinaire. At the sixth annual Lakeside Elementary Bike Rodeo, the San Diego Bike Coalition, school staff and community volunteers will teach hands-on bike safety amidst a carnival of food, games and music. WHY: The San Diego Bike Coalition recognizes that people only ride bikes when they feel safe on their streets. By educating and empowering even San Diego’s youngest riders, the Bike Coalition builds a confident generation on two wheels that can pedal us toward a more bike-friendly future. Tiger-Striped Bikes on Display at One-Day Showcase

SATURDAY: Tiger-Striped Bikes on Display at One-Day Showcase Artists to auction rideable artwork for neighborhood cause WHAT: From military-inspired tiger stripes to a sea glass mosaic, artists from around San Diego present a series of custom bike frames. The one-day showcase will support Young at Art, an Ocean-Beach organization that empowers children through creativity. Guests can enter to win the bikes and support a local cause that brings art into the classroom. The frames will be auctioned off as part of the grand opening celebration for The Coffee Hub, a bike-inspired coffee bar opening its doors in the heart of Point Loma. WHY: The Coffee Hub dedicates itself to supporting hyper-local causes through events that combine two-wheeled fun, local art and craft coffee. Bike to Work Day 2017 will take place Thursday, May 18. Mark your calendar so you can join thousands of commuters throughout the San Diego region as we GO by BIKE. Interested in hosting an official Bike to Work Day pit stop? iCommute will start accepting applications on March 1. Pit stops are a great way for organizations to get involved in Bike to Work Day by offering fun breaks for new and experienced bike riders to rest and pick up free t-shirts and snacks (provided by SANDAG), and free encouragement (provided by you)! SANDAG: SR 15 Commuter Bikeway Update

It's been awhile, but there's lots of bike stuff happening, so just posting to share.

From SANDAG: On Monday, February 27, construction crews closed the sidewalk on the north side of Adams Avenue between the SR 15 on-ramp and Bonnie Court. The closure is needed to accommodate electrical utility line improvements on Adams Avenue. People walking will be detoured to the south side of Adams Avenue. The sidewalk on the north side of Adams Avenue will reopen when the bikeway opens in mid-2017. Your patience is appreciated during construction.

Bike Coalition to Give Away Free Bike Lights to Stay Safe During Dark Commuting Hours
Two-wheeled commuters to light the night for Daylight Savings

WHAT: In conjunction with shorter days and Daylight Savings time, the Bike Coalition invited two-wheeled travelers to collect free bike lights and important safety information about riding in the dark.

WHY: With the Daylight Savings transition on November 6, bike commuters will soon find themselves pedaling to and from work when the sun has gone down. With proper bike lights, all two-wheeled travelers can ride safely, remain visible to others sharing the roads and follow the state law, which mandates front and rear lights when pedaling in the dark.

WHERE/WHEN:
Thursday, November 3 -- 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Chula Vista Farmer’s Market (Third Avenue and Center Street)
In partnership with the City of Chula Vista’s Recreation Department and the Third Avenue Village Association as a part of the year-long Walk + Bike Chula Vista campaign

Thursday, November 10 -- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park (3700 Fairmount Ave.)

It will end at Friday BLVD market, a growing food fest showcasing some of San Diego's most creative, up and coming chefs. Discounts available for those on our ride who buy something at the market.

The group will end the evening riding back together.
