Committee of local women who rides bikes created ride to empower female bicycling community
Morning bike rides to end among celebration of women-owned businesses at Bikeway Village in Imperial Beach
Funds raised to empower San Diego Bike Coalition to advocate for safe biking countywide
WHAT: Hundreds of women of all ages, races and abilities will grab their bikes and pedal for the inaugural Women Ride IB.
In the morning, hundreds of women will divide into two bike riding groups: some will take a casual ride on the roads from Imperial Beach to National City and back, while others will enjoy the mountain bike trails from Imperial Beach through Otay Valley Regional Park and back. Both bike rides will conclude with a festival showcasing local, women-owned businesses at the newly opened Bikeway Village in Imperial Beach.
All proceeds from Women Ride IB benefit the San Diego County Bike Coalition and its mission to protect and advocate for the rights of all people on bikes countywide.
WHY: According to the San Diego County Bike Coalition, Women Ride IB is an opportunity for the female bicycling community in San Diego to grow and celebrate each other. Brought from concept to fruition by a committee of more than a dozen women who ride bicycles in San Diego County, the ride was devised by women, for women.
